This section contains the information you need to install and configure Excel Add-in v3.0.
System Requirements
Ensure your system meets these requirements before installing Excel Add-in v3.0.
Microsoft Office | Excel Add-in v3.0 works on Office 2010, 2013, 2016, and Office 365, when installed locally on a PC. Office 365 in a web browser, Office Online, and Office for Mac (including Office 2016 for Mac) are not supported. |
Operating System | A PC with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10. |
Prerequisites
Install these prerequisites before using Excel Add-in v3.0.
Windows | Install any outstanding updates to Windows. Open Control Panel, then select Windows Update. Alternatively, press the Windows key, then search for 'Windows Update'. If optional or important updates are available, click Install Updates to install them. Restart your computer if prompted. |

Microsoft.NET | Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later must be installed on your PC. If you're unsure, contact your IT administrator or Anaplan Support. Standard installations of Windows 8 have .NET 4.5 installed by default, and Windows 10 has .NET 4.6 installed by default. If you have updated your PC recently, the updated version should be installed. If you still need to install the correct version of .NET, follow these steps:

Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime | As part of the installation, the Microsoft Visual Studio application is installed. This is used to support a number of underlying API calls. For more information, see Microsoft® Download Center. If you run into issues using the Excel Add-in, check that Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime is installed on your computer. |
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 | You may need to apply a workaround for your C++ redistributable package in order to install the Excel Add-in version 3.0. If you have version 12.0.40660.0 of C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86) package for Visual Studio 2013 installed, read our guidance on how to work around this issue. Contact your IT department to confirm which of the two solutions proposed in the article is most appropriate for you. |
Whitelist Auth Service and CDA API endpoints | If your organization has strict technology restrictions, you may need to whitelist the Auth Service and CDA API endpoints to be able to use the Excel Add-in. The Excel Add-in does not currently support proxies. Contact Anaplan Support for assistance. |
Install the Excel Add-in version 3.0
Note: version 3.0 is no longer available to download. You can benefit from improved speed and new features if you download and install the latest version of the Excel Add-in.
If you already have the installation file for version 3.0 saved, you can still install this version. For version 3.0 there are three possible installation files. If you have more than one saved, you must choose the file that's right for you. Choose:

- the .exe version of Anaplan Excel Add-in (Single-User) if you have the necessary rights to install software on your own PC,
- the .msi version of Anaplan Excel Add-in (Single-User) if you’re an Administrator, or
- the Anaplan Excel Add-in (Multi-User) to install and manage Excel Add-in version 3.0 on multiple PCs.
Before starting, check the System Requirements and Prerequisites.
Once you are sure your system meets the requirements and prerequisites, exit Excel completely. Close and save any open workbooks if necessary.

To install Excel Add-in v3.0:
- Double-click the install file to start the Anaplan Excel Add-in Setup Wizard.
The Excel Add-in installer displays. - Click Install.
The Anaplan Excel Add-in Setup Wizard displays. - Click Next.
The End-User License Agreement displays. - Read the terms and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement.
You can only progress to the next stage of the installation if you accept the agreement.
You can click Cancel to exit the setup wizard if you do not want to accept the agreement. - Click Next.
- If you are installing a single user version of the Add-in, the Custom Setup page displays, with the destination folder pre-selected.
- If you are installing the multi-user version of the Add-in, the Destination Folder page displays, showing the folder the Add-in will be saved to. You can click Change to open the Change destination folder page, then browse to the folder where you want to save the Add-in. Select the folder and click OK.
- Click Next.
The Authentication Type Selection page displays. - Select one of these authentication methods to use with the Anaplan Excel Add-in:
- If your organization uses the standard Anaplan login to authenticate, select Anaplan Username & Password
- If your organization authenticates Anaplan users through single sign-on (SSO), select Single Sign On (SSO) and enter your organization's SSO friendly name in the dialog.
You can find your SSO friendly name from the end of your Anaplan SSO URL. For example, in this URL: https://sdp.anaplan.com/frontdoor/saml/FriendlyNameExample is the SSO friendly name.
This input field is case sensitive.
- Click Install.
The Add-in installs. - Click Finish.
The Anaplan Excel Add-in is added to your Apps & features list.
When you open Excel, a new Anaplan tab is displayed on the Excel ribbon and you can log in using your Anaplan or SSO credentials.
If the Anaplan tab is not displayed, restart Excel. If the Anaplan tab is not displayed after restarting Excel, ensure that Excel Add-in v3.0 is enabled in Excel.
Note: After installing the Anaplan Excel Add-in v3.0, Microsoft Excel might not end all processes properly when the software is closed. This is normally seen when starting up Windows — an instance of Excel might open as part of the boot up process. If this happens, open Task Manager and end any running instances of Excel in the Processes tab.
Windows users: Windows SmartScreen
When attempting to run the Anaplan Excel Add-in installer, you might see this message:
If this happens:
- Click the More info link.
- Click Run anyway to continue with the installation of the Anaplan Excel Add-in v3.0.
Visual C++ redistributable error
When trying to install the Excel Add-in, you might get a message that asks you to download and install the Visual C++ redistributable package, even if you already have it installed.
If this happens:
- Uninstall the Visual C++ redistributable package, and restart your PC.
- Update your version of Windows using Windows Update.
- Install the Visual C++ redistributable package, and restart your PC.
You should now be able to install the Excel Add-in v3.0.

Enable and Disable the Add-in
You can control whether the Add-in v3.0 is available in Excel:
- In Excel, on the File menu click Options and then click Add-ins.
- On the Manage list at the bottom of the dialog, choose Excel Add-ins, and click Go.
- In the Add-ins dialog box, select (to enable) or clear (to disable) the Anaplan.Addins.Excel.v2016 Add-in checkbox and click OK.
Check that the Excel Add-in is up to date
To check which version of the Add-in is installed, select the Anaplan tab then on the ribbon, click About.
The About dialog shows which version is currently installed (called the Client Version).
Uninstall the Excel Add-in
- Exit Excel completely. Close and save any open workbooks if necessary.
- In Windows Settings click Apps and then Apps & features.
- Select Anaplan Excel Add-in (Single User) or Anaplan Excel Add-in (Multi User).
- Check that the selected version of the Excel Add-in is the one you want to uninstall then click Uninstall.Note: The version 2.6 Anaplan Excel Add-in is also called Anaplan Excel Add-in in Apps & features.
- Restart your computer if prompted.
Note: To uninstall Excel Add-in v3.0, follow these steps rather than disabling the Add-in in Excel.
